Our Inspiration
Get to know Nicole Petty ~ Founder, Travel Liason & Itinerary Coordinator
Creative Sea Charters was born out of a desire to integrate Nicole’s passion for the sea with her calling to write. As a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Mermaid Instructor, and RYA Day Skipper, she has witnessed the beauty of the depths and soaked in the sun-kissed sky of new beginnings with every sunrise. With a minor in Creative Writing and a concentration in Screen Studies, she continues to hone her craft and has spent the past few years dedicated to becoming the captain of her own story.
In 2016 Nicole attended a travel writing course in Vietnam through Roanoke College that was life-changing. There was a beautiful vulnerability in being exposed to a new culture, especially when surrounded by writers who sought out stories in the whispers of rice paddy fields and embraced new friendships as they donned traditional Vietnamese dress and learned the exciting ways of bamboo dance. Nicole felt how powerful it was to travel with others who supported and celebrated her voice as she meandered her way through foreign lands to become a stronger and more compassionate individual.
The first time she had experienced anything like this was when she was a camper (then staff member) at SeaTrek, a scuba diving, sailing summer camp in the British Virgin Islands. Another group of like-minded people coming together, the students explored epic anchorages and bonded over dive theory and skills. When the three-week trip was up, it was incredible to see how much the students had grown in such a short time.
Reflecting on trips like these, Nicole has come to understand that woven through all her most treasured travels is this incredible sense of community that inspires new threads of creativity to emerge. That’s why building a strong and supportive environment is paramount to each voyage at Creative Sea Charters. Every trip is designed to nurture and inspire and we hope you disembark as a more confident writer, sailor, traveler, listener, and more.
