Voyages
-
Yes! We plan custom trips that suit the needs of our clients and find the best dates and destinations that work for you.
-
Most week-long trips explore one island in the Caribbean of your choosing. For longer trips, we can add another island or two to the itinerary depending on the location.
-
During the voyage, you will spend nights on anchor in calm, protected bays or at a marina.
-
We are open to all travelers whether you’re flying solo or planning a trip with your friends. Charters are a fantastic way to meet new people and build relationships with fellow writers to encourage you to share your story both during the trip and after you disembark.
-
Yes. We have a gourmet chef on board and will notify them of any dietary restrictions to create a meal plan that works for everyone.
-
We do our best to monitor the weather and choose calm, protected anchoragess for the night. If you are prone to motion sickness, there are a few options you can try such as medication, a sea sickness patch, or pressure point band.
Some of the most common anti-sea sickness medications are Dramamine and Bonine. We have found Bonine to work well and not cause excessive drowsiness.
If you are planning on taking sea sickness tablets, please consult your doctor as to which medication is right for you.
The Vessel
-
We have room for up to 10 guests on board. Additionally, there will be a captain, chef, travel liaison, and writing instructor to accommodate your every need.
-
Accommodations vary depending on the charter vessel but most yachts have 5-6 cabins with the option of a shared double mattress or bunk beds. You may choose to share a cabin with another guest, which is a great option for people traveling with friends or a significant other, book a cabin with bunk beds, or reserve a private cabin for a slightly higher fee.
If you choose to share a cabin to minimize cost but would like a little more space, there are plenty of lounge areas for people to cozy up on throughout the boat. Additionally, some people prefer to set up a hammock or layout on the spacious netting on the bow and fall asleep under the stars.
-
Restrooms on a boat are called heads and most charter vessels will have 5-6 heads on board. Depending on the vessel, they may be electric or have a pump next to them that flushes everything out. Marine heads are sensitive and we ask that all paper products, including toilet paper, be disposed of in the waste paper bin.
-
Each head on board includes a shower for guests to use and we have a water maker on board to ensure everyone can have a nice, relaxing rinse. You’re also more than welcome to use the marina facilities when we are at port. For those feeling adventurous, feel free to try a boat shower and enjoy the simplicity of rinsing off in the sea followed by a freshwater rinse.
-
During the trip you will be provided with two sets of lines as well as two sets of towels and beach towels. If you prefer to pack an extra towel, we recommend bringing a material that is quick drying.
Writing
-
We're happy to welcome any writer aboard whether you're just dipping your toes in or have already been published. We offer a variety of themed voyages from traditional genres like fiction, memoir writing, and travel writing, to more creative concepts such as photojournalism, nature conservation, and food writing.
Looking for a unique theme for your voyage? Let us know and we'll be happy to create a custom trip for you!
-
During a workshop, you and your fellow writers will gather to offer positive feedback and constructive criticism on each other's stories. Lead by your writing instructor, you will gain confidence in sharing your work and build relations with your fellow writers that will last long after the voyage ends.
Though it is optional to share, we highly encourage you to do so in this safe and supportive space. For students taking a voyage with a professor, your instructor may require you to particiapte in workshops.
-
Open Mic Nights are an incredible opportunity to showcase your work and build confidence in sharing your voice with others. You can share a poem, a passage, something you've written on the trip or use it as a chance to discuss a writing prompt. Whatever your heart desires! We love to spend these nights gathered under the stars, hot coco in hand, and celebrate the voices of our newfound friends.
Open Mic Nights are optional but we do ask that everyone provide positive and supportive encouragement for those that choose to share their work.
For students taking a voyage with a professor, you may be required to share on at least one of these occasions.
-
We handpick the best instructors to lead you through different themed writing voyages. Your teachers and mentors may be a professor, published author, journalist, nature conservationist, songwriter, or another expert in their field that will share their experience and writing wisdom with you.
You will have opportunities to share your work with the group as well as receive personal, one-on-one feedback from your instructor.
-
We ask that everyone bring their own writing notebook and pen. We recommend that you bring this notebook with you during our shore excursions and community projects to jot down any thoughts or details as you explore.
-
You can bring your laptop on board to write but please take care when using it as Creative Sea Charters is not responsible for any lost or damaged electronics during the trip.

While it is possible to join the trip without knowing how to swim, we do encourage guests to feel comfortable in the water before coming on a voyage.
We require anyone participating in water activities to know how to swim including but not limited to snorkeling, freediving, kayaking, paddle boarding, wading in waterfalls or engaging in another ocean related activities.

Packing
-
You will be provided with a comprehensive packing list upon booking confirmation.

-
Most charter vessels in the Caribbean will have 110V outlets that will be available for guests to charge their devices, although you may need an adapter. While many guests do choose to write on their laptop, we believe this is a unique opportunity to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature and your fellow travelers.
Whatever device you choose to bring, please remember that boats are a wet environment and devices can go overboard or be damaged if you're not careful. Creative Sea Charters is not responsible for lost or damaged devices during the trip.
-
You will have opportunities to connect to Wi-fi when we stop at marinas and in cafes or local shops in town. You can also look into purchasing an E-sim for the duration of your trip. Please note that most E-sims must be downloaded prior to arriving in your destination.
-
While it’s important to lather up and protect your skin from the sun, it’s also critical that we do our part to protect our oceans and use reef-safe sunscreen. It can be challenging to find the perfect mineral sunscreen that is both safe for you and the reef, so we use the app Yuka to search different products and see how they rate based on their ingredients. Here’s a list of our favorite mineral sunscreens that have earned the highest rating on Yuka.
Blue Lizard: Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen Stick SPF 50
Raw Ocean: Face & Body Lotion Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30
Native: Coconut & Pineapple Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30

One of the most freeing aspects of sailing is going barefoot on the boat. You will be able to grip the deck better and connect in more with the energy around you. You will want sandals or other lightweight shoes for shore excursions and secure sandals or closed toed shoes for hikes.
As storage space is limited, we kindly ask you to pack lightly when choosing which shoes to bring.

We run voyages year-round and tailor your itinerary to ensure you enjoy the best and most comfortable sailing conditions and anchorages throughout your journey. Our captains monitor weather reports before and during the trip and may adjust the itinerary within reason due to a change in conditions.
In the unlikely event that a trip cannot run due to unsafe weather conditions, the voyage will be rescheduled. If a guest cannot attend the new travel dates, they will receive a refund.
